Pushkar Fair Events - 2022

The Pushkar fair is a centuries-old tradition that celebrates the Kartik Purnima, a full moon night consecrated to the Pushkar lake. According to locals, the fair was created to honor this special occasion and has been a staple of Hindu culture for many years.

In the past, villagers from nearby villages would come and take part in the celebration by performing religious rituals. This was accompanied by folk music and dance, making it a rich and vibrant event. Today, the Pushkar fair continues to be an important part of Hindu culture and is a must-see event for anyone interested in learning more about this religion.

The Pushkar fair is an annual event that attracts visitors from all over the country. For nine days, pilgrims and villagers alike come to Pushkar to take a holy dip in the Pushkar Lake and offer prayers to Lord Brahma at his one and only temple on earth. The fair is also highlighted by a number of other traditional competitions and activities, including puppet shows, mustache competitions, camel sports, Matka Tod competitions, Bridal competitions, camel parades, and dance performances. It is truly a concentrated dose of Rajasthani culture and heritage.

Pushkar is one of the holiest places for Hindus, with 400 temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses. The most important temple is dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. Fifty-two ghats surround the lake. During the annual mela, the lake is teeming with religious devotees who come to take a dip in the sacred waters. Sadhus descend from the Himalayas and people pray for salvation while verses from the Holy Scriptures fill the air.
